QUALITY CONTROL FOR CONCRETE DURABILITY WHEN SUBJECTED TO CHLORIDE DIFFUSION IN HONG KONG-ZHUHAI-MACAU SEA LINK PROJECT

  • The chloride diffusion coefficient, DCl, is a main indicator of concrete durability in chloride-induced corrosion environments. Taking DCl as the control parameter, this paper proposes quality acceptance criteria for concrete durability in the HZM (Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau) sea-link project. First, an uncertainty relationship between the design parameter and the quality control parameter was established. Then, according to the fundamental reliability principle, this research developed quality control characteristic values of DCl in different exposure zones, using a durability design model based on Fick’s Second Law, and further, the concrete assurance percentage corresponding to the lower limit requirement for structure durability was determined to be 75%. Finally, considering the balance between the consumer’s risk and the producer’s risk in any sampling plan, the acceptance criteria for the HZM project were given.
